How do you cope with the fever of information?

Dropped undead

My girlfriends 4th gen iPod had dided on her several month ago. It was replaced wich a beautiful new green nano, but we had the broken one still gathering dust on a shlve here.

Then I stumbled across this article describing how he dropped a dead 4th gen iPod on the floor after being desperate, as some online reports suggested.

So I decided: "What the hell, it's dead anyway!" and dropped it on the floor.

And guess what… it worked! The iPod is working again!

Can you believe this?

Note: I am by no means suggesting you should do this to your iPod. It just worked for me with an iPod i considered dead anyway!

There and back again

I'm back in good 'ol Germany. I'm a bit sad that the trip is over. Hawai'i is certanly a wonderfull place. I'll miss it.
Toto on the worlds biggest vulcano (Big Island, Hawai'i)

A few things I would do different next time (Do not take this to seriously ;-)):

  • Put all my stuff in one backpack. Suitcases are insanly bad for spontaneous travel
  • Set up my mailserver with a webmail interface (a lot of people sell you "Internet" and all you get is www)
  • Install Internet-over-DNS software. Get real Internet even in www-only-proxy nets
  • prepare some webpages with IE expoits to take control of a Windows-PC. You never know if you need that ;-)
  • Not forget you Atheros-PCMCIA-Card so you can do WEP-cracking
  • And do not forget you iPod on the plane.

This fits very well...

Black Market

"The MP3s on a full 40GB iPod have a retail value of $10,000. An iPod weighs in at 160 grams, so that's about $60 gram or approximately the street price of cocaine."

From New RIAA via IT&W

They got more funny stats, but this clearly made me laugh :-)
